Last night, I hit the Sugarhouse Liquor store after picking up my wife at work. I may have hit my all time high, 89.90 (I'm throwing a party).

2 - 5th Sauza Gold
1 Magnum Delacato Cab
1 Napa Ridge Cab
1 - 5th Absolut
1 - 5th Jim Beam
1 - Magnum Lindeman's Chardonnay
1 pint Triple Sec

I'm probably just plowing through the Sauza, well, who is Hammergate kidding?

I did spend roughly 150 at Trader Joes in No. Cal two years back, all wine, lasted forever, what can I say, it was my 2 year supply heritage speaking to me. That was my all time high.

What is your all time high?

I figured. I booted back 24 bottles of 2 buck and another mixed case of decent stuff from TJ's which ran me 150. Next summer I envision a massive handle purchase out of state.

How about two PALETTES of beer for a week long Lake Powell party. Pretty funny since the local Harmons had to load then into my pick-up with a fork lift.... I have some pictures around here somewhere of the beer and party..... Ahhh..... the good ol' days.

Anther year we had over $700 in mini bottles as Christmas tree decorations. New Years we had a big blow out we called "Drinking of the Tree". This was an annual event for about 10 years until I got married.

I got lots of entertaining drinking stories. I didn't get married until I was 35 and I was a pretty wild child.

I'm just not into wine.

I saw something at the store that got my attention
"Evolution Amber Ale" from Wasatch...."Darwin Approved"....
:roflol:
I buy Wasatch sometimes just because of thier beer names.

Sweet and here Hammergate thought he might have a drinking problem....
Uh....sorry, but y'all sound like you have a drinking problem to me! :haha:

I can honestly say I've probably never spent more than $20-30 on alcohol at any one time ('cept maybe when I bought a keg and had a party at my house when I was 17 and my mom was out of town...heh, heh). And in that case, it's usually just a single bottle of something, like port or a nice liqueur like Amaretto that lasts ages.

Let's see....[goes to check current booze stash]: I've currently got on hand a bottle of 2 buck chuck Merlot, a bottle of pinot grigio, some spiced rum, some vanilla vodka, some tequilla and triple sec for making margies, an opened bottle of Taylor Fladgate port. :slobber:

Whilst acquiring my post-graduate education in San Francisco, I developed a love for thick, dark beer....mmmm, beer.....but I don't have any around at the moment. Fave bottled is Samual Smith's Oatmeal Stout. And I do the happy dance  for a good porter as well. No wimpy lagers or bitter ales for this chickadee!

Dirk - I have a question for you: when you went into the state liquor store, did you wear your dark glasses (a la your avatar) or maybe some other disguise so you wouldn't be recognized? 'Cos I thought that you mormon folk weren't allowed to drink :nono: Is there the same sort of embarrassing moment like when you see one of your co-workers in the porn section of the movie rental place (of course, I'm sure none of y'all watch porn, either :naughty: ), or is it no big deal? And are all liquor stores in SLC state-owned? I am completely unaware of how this all works!

Please enlighten this heathen :friday:

SJ

PS - and I know who to come party with when I'm recreating in Utah now - woo hoo!

All liquor stores in the entire state are state-owned.

Just to give you an idea of the markup the state charges us heathens, a 1.75L bottle of Bacardi (my personal favorite) costs $23.95 in Utah, but can be had in Colorado for $18.99. It just doesn't seem right that the state government is making that much money by selling alcohol.

Whoa :eek2: Major bummer. No wonder everyone makes some serious out-of-state liquor runs periodically.

Well, the next time I know I'm coming up to Utah to enjoy the vast recreational opportunities that your state offers, maybe I'll offer to do a beer run of sorts for those in the area.

And if anyone ever comes backpacking with me, I often bring spiced rum in my kick-ass RumRunner flask and I always share. It's basically an 8 or 16 oz version of a Platypus bladder, but it has a cool pirate sticker on it :cool2: It's pretty much part of my checklist for backpacking.

It was a little bit of culture shock when I first moved here from New Orleans. Down there, you can get whatever you want (alcohol) 24/7 in any grocery store. Not to mention, you can literally pull up to a drive-thru daquiri stand, get your drink handed out of the window along with a side shot if you want. Yep.......it was a bit of an adjustment at first. :haha: But it's ok.......there's a lot of other things here that more than make up for it. :2thumbs:

No, just jeans and a T-Shirt and I'm pretty much on a first name basis with most of the good folk at the Sugarhouse liquor store. Nobody on this board would recognize me without my pimpdaddy outfit. Statewide all liquor stores fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Alcohol/Beverage control. Thus the only thing available at your run of the mill grocery store is 3.2 percent beer which is a bummer because I hate beer. I grew up in the Bay Area and thought I'd have a tough time adjusting to Utah. I found that Salt Lake City proper is surprisingly metro in activities, trends, and political leanings, aside from never getting a Trader Joes or having the advantage of bulk Costco liquor SLC is pretty sweet.

On a porn side, well, my wife does like, ah, nevermind....

Ah ha ha ha ha ha, me too, dude, me too. Exactly 24 bottles the last time I stocked up, and a mixed case.

Gotta be the Charles Shaw, merlot or cab?

That $2 Shaw is the best thing to ever happen to budget wine fans, I read it has the Mondavi wineries running scared.

Mixed case? Trader stuff? Lemme guess...Grey Goose Vodka, Rum of the Gods, and whatever oddball tequila was on sale?

Hey Dirk, I go twice a year to soCal to work, Traders is my last stop on the way out, straight to Springville, I could help you out...although I heard there is a Traders in Vegas now.

The most I've spent in Utah was a $27 bottle of Jim Beam worth $15 anywhere else.

The most ever, well, one summer me and my friends ran a party crew, and BFP Productions bought 350 kegs from the same grocery store in 4 months.

Oh those hazy, lazy, crazy days of suuuuummer

:pitcher: My stock of Molson Ice is rapidly diminishing and I need a pony keg for the Superbowl.

Oh yeah.... and While I'm there I plan to buy a massive amount of fireworks so I can give them to my kids. Happiness is giving a 10 y/o a giant bag of illegal fireworks. :lol8:

2 buck chuck, I like the Merlot just cause it doesn't taste like Robotussin. I've tried all varieties, Shiraz, Cab, and Chard, the Merlot seems to be the most drinkable. Let me elaborate on my bootlegging skills. I just so happens my lovely wife works for a major airline carrier at Salt Lake International, i.e., I can pretty much fly to SFO, LAX, Denver, Chicago, or San Diego free of charge at any time. I grew up in the Bay Area so I still have a ton of friends all over to hook up with and meet when I fly in. I know each TJ's location on the Pennisula and the two which surround LAX. I've been known to do a day trip every 6 weeks to boot back around 14 bottles which are good, and or hard to come by at your local Utah State Liquor store. A variety I really, really like which I just stumbled across is called Malbec. I bought 6 bottles last run, 3.99 a pop at TJ's. The same label at the DABC runs you 10.95. Its worth the day trip. The label I really like is Gascon Malbec, its a red with all sorts of peppercorn taste, its actually better if you open it the day before you drink it, something about the tanins who knows. Old wineries used Malbec as a blending wine but of late, its been refined into a pretty nice red with a little gusto.

I don't usually drink beer, just wine and Bourbon, ah Bourbon, my old friend. I could drink it endlessly and of late had to curtail my consumption as to not alarm my better half.

I do appreciate the TJ offer but I'm pretty handy with an empty suit case full of bubble wrap, clear packing tape, and a large carry on. You should see the looks from people when I'm reloading all that wine, I just tell the staff I'm from Utah and that seems to explain everything.

2 buck chuck. I love it. Merlot for me, I have no fancy taste in wine, merlot and cab are all I've ever really drank, winewise. I used to buy Barefoot merlot before the 2 buck chuck.

I see your smuggling needs are well in hand, I got that bulk thing going on, but you have that quick turnaround time on your side.

Glen Fry-

It's a losing proposition,
But one you can't refuse.
It's the politics of contraband,
It's the smuggler's blues

Wow - after reading your comments I think that my choice to not drink has nothing to do with religion. I am too cheap to spend that kind of money.

Someone asked me how life was once I quit taking "pharmaceuticals". I said that life was just the same only less fuzzy.

A 30% raise? Wow, that is amazing. Congratulations. Let's see, $8 an hour plus 30% makes it an increase of $2.40 bringing you to $10.40 an hour. I didn't know that 7-Eleven could pay that much :roflol:

Seriously, congratulations!
