Howdy all,

A quick diddle on me and I will be done, I swear! OK so I am originally from Oregon (which I miss dearly) and came to Utah for a little canyoneering, biking, kayaking, climbing, so on and so fourth. I blindly bought a little pad in Spanish Fork (P.S. I need a roommate, send an email for details) and started to settle in. Well that was about 8 months ago and I still have one neighbor that looks at me funny yet won't say a word (but does call the police for having a couple buddies over a brew, nice guy...) and the other one, well he just thinks I am all wacko. So I feel very welcomed to the neighborhood!

Like I mentioned I came here for some outdoor activities, thinking that everyone in utah was a bad-ass climber or hardcore mountain biker. I realized I was wrong when I commented on the beautifull mountains and the real estate agent said "I never really noticed them before...". So my assumptions where wrong on the general culture (I have been known to make a mistake) but I do know that you are out their, you outdoor loving, canyoneering, rock climbing, kayaking, whatever else ing people. So maybe you can help me revive my diminishing view of this awesome state and go have some fun.

About me... I am a 26 year old male, I have a 3 year old black lab named Gretta, I managed a girlfriend with like views on life, I work for the Forest Service running a fire crew, and I just want to go do stuff. A beer in Salt Lake or a trip south to go romping through the desert for a week(end). I am an avid tele skier (got my 6th time up today during a lunch break), I am into climbing, canyoneering, dabble in mountain biking, kayaking, you name it. I am not hard core anything other than being in the outdoors. So if you got an itch for anything and can't find a partner drop a line and I may or may not show up. I will try to post some pics from my most recent adventures within the next week or so. Take care and hope to meet a new group of groupies.

-Peter

Dirk Hammergate lived in Provo for 2 years and I did manage to stumble onto the best thing that's ever happened to me (my wife) but in the same breath was escorted out of the county with notice to never return. I had some great times down there, mostly surreal type "is this really happening to me" experiences. I did like the quick jump to the Plateau from Provo.

Welcome.

Ha, that's great, man. :haha: True, there are ungrateful people here who have no idea what is out there.

You know, it's kind of like the first time I went to Denver, CO. I was expecting towering Rocky Mountains everywhere you turned. WRONG! You have to look way into the distance to see them, and that's in one direction.

But the difference is, we've really got the good stuff here, and some of us just don't know it.

Welcome to the site, man. I'm sure you'll run into some more crazies while you're in the state, but let the recreational bonuses trump that.

Well said. I came out from No Cal for school, freaked out a bit and honestly with all the options literally at my doorstep compared to that of California (sheer numbers of people) I vowed to stay. I just reupped my seasonal MillCreek Canyon pass the other day. Felt great.

AAAhhhhh yes, I see the problem.... you moved to Happy Valley :roflol:

My favorite part about visiting Happy Valley is the 30 year trip back in the time machine.

:2thumbs: Welcome to the site :2thumbs:

Yeah, I agree on the uutah trips. It should be a new years resolution for all uutah members.

You have come to the right place Peter. Well, that is for outdoor madness. Where you happened to buy a crib is another story all-together. :haha:

I am so glad to hear I am not the only person that felt time had stopped and rolled backwards a few decades, and not the only one who felt owverwhelmed by the..oh how do I say this nicely..culture. Sounds like I did find the right place for meeting some 'real' people.

I am heading to Jackson for the new years but I will post some pics when I get back of my latest trips. I have done no mountain biking! yet, did a couple canyons here and their (little blue john, attempted lepracaun and got rained out, medieval chamber, and few other random canyons) but look forward to doing oh so much more.

Have a good new years!

P.S. I am willing to bribe with imported oregon beer for beta, buddies, and invites on trips :haha: [/quote]

hi Peter,
do not dispair au contraire off all the utahns locals I am a trasnplant too and from a different continent
so is true utah can be shoking at first but take a deep breath and there are tons of people mostly from east coast that move here for the same reason ,so just hang with people more open minded and you will feel home.
Spanish fork....not much but hey you drive up to salt lake 20min and you have it all again all the diversity
in term of activities you can check local outdoors club using google
in salt lake there is wasatch mountain club
middle age folks ,but great people do a lot of sports (including climbing) safe and very nice people
in your young age usually people are more hardcore when they do sports
I think in this website there are bunch of people that can be good for doing activities with
I never meet them beside Iceaxe and looking forward to meet them
they seem a nice group
just do not discuss about guns or being a vegetarian.........

That's good. It's one of those you hear, and then say, "why haven't I heard that before?"

No offense to vegetarians though, you've got to admit it's a funny joke. :haha:
