I just got the Olympus D580, which was a Consumer Reports Best Buy. The question I have for anyone who has used an Olympus before is on their proprietary software. Any way around this, so that I don't have to use it?

I have an Olympus and I don't use the software. I just use the cable to dump the photos to my computer. Then I use the the batch function in adobe photoshop to convert my photos for web. I also use photoshop for any other imaging or graphic stuff. Course if you don't have that......you could use this? Also has batching..... http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=129

I don't use the software, either. I'm on my second Olympus, the last one met an untimely death in a stream....
Plug your camera in using the USB cord. Go to "my computer" and select the drive. Copy the photos and move them to where you want, then edit etc.
Free editing software I use

i do not use the sotware to upload the pictures
as accadacca ia a plug and play so in my computer you find the camera as it was a removable disk
but i like the camedia master software to print the index of my folder in a 4x6 picture or to print multiple picture in the same page
