Welcome to the site Justin. You're atleast the 3rd Justin on here, including myself.
Accadacca and I were just in St George this weekend, and were talking about how nice Cedar City would be to live in. You've got a lot of recreation nearby, and Vegas is under 3 hours drive. You can cruise down to Mesquite for some good seafood buffets on the weekend.
What brought you to the decision to move there? Are you familiar with the area?
BTW, I'd give up thick trees for red rock any day. Besides, there's still trees in Cedar City.

BTW, how's the riding out there in VA? Got any cool trails you can tell us about?

Cedar City has really got a lot going for it. It is kinda like the Salt Lake Valley except much less crime and people. They have Brian head ski resort. There are some awesome Mt. Bike trails in that area. Check out: http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/ Then the Southern Plateau link on the left. Then the moto riding is endless. I am a big fan of that area! :hail2thechief: They really have a mix of everything.

Well the Gf is a professor and she's taking a gig at SUU in Cedar City. Hence the chance to move there..

We're a bit spoiled back here for riding. Probably have 400+ miles of singletrack within a 2 hour circle of town.. You can go out for a 8 mile spin, or an all day epic.. The Shenandoah Valley ain't too hard to live in. Small town atmosphere, colleges abound, plenty of restuarants and places to grab an adult beverage, etc.. Great bike crowd, I'm actually on the board of directors with the local Mt. Bike club. Phenomonal riding for bikes and motorcycles..

That said.. I'm interested in what it's like to live in Cedar City. How hard is it to find a decent place with a garage? Decent places to eat? (sounds like the jog down the road doesn't take to long to find a casino for a buffet)

Is there a bike crowd? Or an outdoors crowd?

Thanks in advance guys.

My favorite short loop, it's called Boyscout.
4 miles, all pristine singletrack. Got a hard technical off camber lung busting climb for about 1.2 miles to the first summit. It's rocky, and gnarled roots, and steep (2000 feet gain). Drops accross a saddle to a nice steep pitch to the real summit. Drops from the top back to the start of the loop for about a 1.75 mile downhill, nothing nut running flatout over small drops, rock gardens, between trees, and with smooth flowing turns. Just a blast.

Favorite Epic. Road Hollow to Braley's Pond. About a 5 hour ride. 8 miles of pavement to the ridgeline, then a ridgetop ride accross and then dropping 2800 feet in 4 miles. Narrow, sketchy, off-camber trail. Spits you out on a river, cross it, and climb to the next knob, about 2 miles and 2800 feet back up. Drop down to the pond on another even sweeter section. Hands down a fun flowy BMX type ride down. When BIKE magazine came out and did an article 6 years back or so.. they said it was the best singletrack they'd ever ridden. And I ain't about to disagree.

Those sound like some good trails. I'll bet there's a ton of rides through the trees and streams on fast singletrack.
I'm not fully familiar with Cedar City, but it should be very easy to find a place with a garage if it's anything like northern Utah.
I've got a rambler with a full basement, and 2 car garage for relatively cheap. Under 140k.
I know they're building down there, and you might be able to get yourself a sweet little setup for around 160k, but I'm not that certain. I imagine that's what the brand new houses would go for.

You know I just heard that CS it is a great place to be a teacher. My wife has a HS friend and her husband that came over for dinner the other night. He is from Cedar City and played FTB at SUU. She met him while attending SUU. They are both teachers now.

They had been living down there for a while after they graduated. He wanted to get into HS FTB coaching. He had been coaching at SUU after he graduated. He just took a job back this way near Salt Lake as a PE/FTB coach. :blahblah:

Ok......So they both said that they would like to end up back down that way. They said that it is hard to get a teaching job because all the teachers love it and don't to want leave. Since it is a college town all the kids are really into learning. Ya know they have a parent that works at the college or a sibling that goes there. The kids are really into education and are smart. I guess it makes for an easy job as a teacher.

I am sure that there is a good outdoor community down that way. I would love to live down there. It sounds like you have a pretty good thing in VA. However Southern Utah is a Mecca for many outdoor sports. Then hell the rest of Utah ain't that bad either. :lol8:

Cedar is growing like a weed. I was down there over the Fourth and was shocked to see how much it's grown. You could probably find anything you want down there with a garage. Lots of new housing developments going up. We go down every other year for a family reunion and so I've been going down since I was just a pup. I wouldn't mind living there. There's a lot of National Parks and rec areas close by and SUU has even grown a ton. But Cedar City still has that "small town" charm, and would be a good place to raise a family and enjoy the outdoors.
